Fans are convinced Nintendo has accidentally revealed the next wave of N64 titles coming to the Switch’s online library.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can currently play a range of N64 games on the Switch and the Switch 2 as part of their membership. As it stands, 35 titles from the iconic console are currently available, including The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, Mario Kart 64 and Pokemon Stadium. Check out the full list of available N64 games here. 

However fans believe a Nintendo trailer shared back in May has leaked a number of upcoming releases. The video in question reveals a number of new features coming to the Switch Online Library and includes a handful of blurred video game artworks. 

Some fans believe these blurred out artworks are just placeholders for future titles but GameXplain streamer Andre Segers has suggested the brief clip confirms Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong 64, Forsaken 64 and Glover are all due to join the platform.

“Damn, are we really at the point that we are trying to deceive what we see in a blurred background based on the color positions?!” wrote one fan. “This just means Nintendo has all these games loaded on their development apps and are just withholding them for no reason whatsoever,” added another. “Please just give me Smash,” said a third.

Earlier this week, Mario Strikers joined the Switch Online Library after Gamecube titles were added as part of the Switch 2 launch. Currently Switch 2 subscribers can play four different GameCube titles, with Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Chibi-Robo, Luigi’s Mansion and Pokémon Colosseum all set to join the online library in the future.

In other news, Nintendo has confirmed it is working on more film adaptations beyond the already announced Legend Of Zelda movie and the Super Mario Bros. sequel.

Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft is heading to World Of Tanks and fans aren’t happy

World Of Tanks announced details of two special battle passes yesterday (July 7), featuring Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft and Duke Nukem, which will allow players to earn “unique rewards” inspired by the gaming franchises. “Lay out your path toward prizes charged with Lara’s razor-sharp precision or Duke’s bombastic swagger, switch Chapters whenever you wish, and claim rewards in any order,” explained the announcement. 

The collab gives fans a better look at the updated version of Lara Croft first seen in a 2023 Call Of Duty crossover while the character will be voiced by Keely Hawes, who has been involved in the franchise since 2006.

The World Of Tanks collab goes live later this week (July 10) and will run until July 21.

However some Tomb Raider fans aren’t impressed with another collab. In recent years, Lara Croft has appeared in Call Of Duty, PowerWash Simulator, Fall Guys, Hero Wars and many other games but there hasn’t been a new mainline game since 2018’s Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.

“Okay, this is getting absolutely ridiculous. Lara has appeared in every single game except her own at this point,” wrote one fan. “Honestly I love the new design, I just think it’s annoying how many unrelated things she appears in,” added another. “Another day. another cross promotion without a new game announcement…,” said a third.

At the end of 2022, Amazon Games confirmed a new single-player, narrative-driven adventure Tomb Raider game was in the works from Crystal Dynamics. 

According a statement from developers, the new game will “include all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming, giving players control of the confident and multidimensional hero Lara Croft in an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding, with mind-bending puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and overcome.”

Last year, Amazon Games boss Christoph Hartmann confirmed the game hadn’t been affected by lay-offs at the company. “I mean, doing a new Tomb Raider, the bar is so high,” he added. “The longer you go, the expectation goes higher, so it’s a huge, huge task, but things are progressing. I mean, there’s some really great ideas here. Obviously, we’re not going to share any with you even if we would love to, but things are going well, things are moving forward.”

A live-action Tomb Raider series written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge has reportedly been cancelled at Amazon after being announced last year. However an official statement has yet to be shared.

Back in March, it was reported that Split Fiction had become the best reviewed game of 2025 following a hugely popular launch. The following month, it was beaten to the top spot by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Now that we’re halfway through the year, Metacritic has shared an updated list of the best reviewed games of 2025 – and there’s a surprising entry at the number one spot. According to the review aggregator, the Switch 2 edition of The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is the best game released this year.

Based on an average of 13 reviews, the updated version of the 2023 game has a Metacritic score of 96 out of 100. Coming in second is the Switch 2 edition of Breath Of The Wild, which has a Metascore of 95. The updated version of both Zelda games offers Switch 2 players “higher resolution, improved frame rates and HDR support, meaning the expansive world of Hyrule has never looked better.”

Rounding out the top five are Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Blue Prince and Split Fiction.

However, in a separate countdown Metacritic has removed both Legend Of Zelda titles. “Newly released ports of games released in prior years on other platforms are excluded, unless they are significantly different from the prior release (for example, an HD remaster that also adds some new content or is multiple hardware generations beyond the previous release). Expansions/DLC, mobile games, compilations, and ‘Definitive’/GOTY editions are also ineligible,” they explained.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and Sea of Stars: Throes Of The Watchmaker have also been removed for a similar reason.

A live-action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda is due to hit cinemas in 2027 with  Euphoria star Hunter Schafer reportedly being considered for a major role. It’s also been reported that Sydney Sweeney will star in an adaptation of Split Fiction.

In other news, Final Fantasy 9’s soundtrack is getting a vinyl release in honour of the game’s 25th anniversary but there is still no news about a potential remake.

Final Fantasy 9’s soundtrack is getting a vinyl release in honour of the game’s 25th anniversary.

Final Fantasy 9 was originally launched on July 7 2000 to critical and commercial praise, and remains one of the most popular entries in the long-running series.

To celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary, developers Square Enix have announced a range of new merch alongside an eight-hour livestream of the music from the game and a new vinyl release.

The ‘Timeless Tale’ vinyl will feature three tracks from the original game, as well as three specially-recorded versions. “An MP3 download code for all tracks is also included, allowing you to enjoy the music even if you don’t have a record player,” explains the official Square Enix store.

According to the product description, The newly recorded ‘Melodies Of Life (Timeless Tale version)’ is performed by Emiko Shiratori while an accompanying booklet will feature linear notes from legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. The cover for the vinyl is a new illustration from Toshiyuki Itahana that celebrates 25 years of Final Fantasy 9.

The anniversary celebrations for Final Fantasy 9 have included a new movie, a picture book that explores the backstory of young mage Vivi and a range of new artworks. However, the long-awaited remake of Final Fantasy 9 still hasn’t been announced.

In 2021, a leak claimed a full remake was in the works and earlier this year, it was reported the project was still on the way and looking at a possible 2026 release date. All the anniversary celebrations convinced many fans that an announcement was imminent, but the lack of news has now cast doubts on the rumours.

According to one leaker, the remake of Final Fantasy 9 might have been scrapped by Square Enix. “I did hear a month or so ago that it was in trouble & possibly cancelled. I only had one source on the cancellation possibility and need to verify the info further,” Nate Drake claimed (via MyNintendoNews).

Last year Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida hinted that Square Enix were working on a Final Fantasy 9 remake after releasing a wave of pre-order bonuses inspired by the classic game. “You may have noticed a lot of Final Fantasy 9 references here, but the reason is a secret,” Yoshida explained at the time.

Nintendo has announced details of Animal Crossing’s “first ever” collaboration with Crocs.

Due for release later this year, the crossover between cosy game Animal Crossing and cosy footwear brand Crocs will include a range of footwear and accessories.

“Crocs, a global leader in innovative casual footwear for women, men, and children, is launching a special collaboration with Nintendo,” reads a press release. “This new collection features elements inspired by the lush, natural setting from the game. From the green tone that represents the land to the sole and strap inspired by the sea, see if you can discover all the Animal Crossing moments throughout the design of the shoe.”

The collection includes Animal Crossing-inspired Platform Clogs, which will be available in North America for $69.99 while kids can grab the Animal Crossing Classic Clog for $54.99. “As opportunities for travel and fun outings arise, let these Crocs help you step into a relaxing, nature-filled world with your favorite characters right at your feet,” says the press release.

The collaboration will also include a range of Jibbitz charms, which can be used to customise Croc shoes. “Just like customising life on the island in the game, fans can decorate and personalise their own pair of Crocs with interchangeable charms—bringing the joy of Animal Crossing into their everyday routine.” These include fan-favourite characters Tom Nook, K.K. Slider, Timmy & Tommy, residents such as Rosie, Marshal and Bunnie as well as iconic in-game items.

The Animal Crossing Crocs range will launch August 26, 2025 in North America. It’s not yet known if the collab will be available elsewhere. Responding to the announcement on social media, one fan wrote: “This is what I’m gonna be wearing under my wedding dress.”

“I’ve never worn Crocs before but I am obsessed with these,” said another.  “So much cute Animal Crossing stuff lately must mean something is coming,” added a third fan.

The most recent Animal Crossing game New Horizons was launched back in 2020 and received a number of updates with the final one coming in November 2022. This summer, the cosy game has been popping up at Sea Life aquariums across the UK as part of an educational experience.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in 2023 and quickly became a box office smash. It’s still the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time and a sequel was announced in 2024.

Nintendo also confirmed plans for a live-action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda, though news on cast and director has yet to be shared.

During a recent financial call, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the company wanted to turn more of their gaming franchises into TV shows and films. “Although we cannot discuss our plans beyond The Legend of Zelda movie at this time, we are working on various other projects,” he explained (via ComicBook.com).

“Under our strategy of ‘expanding the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP’ to continuously invigorate our core integrated hardware-software business, we have been working on initiatives beyond our dedicated video game platforms for several years,” he continued.

“Visual content is one such area. And rather than simply licensing our IP to film production companies, we are taking a proactive approach where Nintendo itself is deeply involved in production and makes investments as needed. This approach allows us to maintain a strong commitment to the quality of the final product.”

The sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is due to launch April 2026 while the live action Legend Of Zelda film will launch in May 2027 after being pushed back from March. It’s been reported that Euphoria star Hunter Schafer is being considered for a major role in the adaptation, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Nintendo also has plenty of other beloved franchises to pull from for adaptations as well, such as Metroid, Animal Crossing, Splatoon and Kirby.

In the same call, Furakawa defended the price of the Switch 2. “It is true that Nintendo Switch 2 has a higher price point than our past gaming systems. We are creating various opportunities outside of our gaming systems for young children to engage with Nintendo characters and game worlds, with one of the ultimate goals being that they will eventually play on our gaming systems,” he explained. “We are closely monitoring to what degree the price of the system might become a barrier.” Since it launched in April, the Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console of all time.

Helldivers 2 launched last year exclusively on the PlayStation 5 and PC and sold more than 12million copies in its first few months. It went on to win big at the 2024 Game Awards and the BAFTA Game Awards.

Now, 18months after the hit shooter was released, it’s been confirmed that Helldivers 2 will launch for Xbox Series X/S on August 26, with cross-play available.

“We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game,” Game Director Mikael Eriksson told Xbox Wire. “We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”

Helldivers 2 will become the first PlayStation-published game to be available on rival consoles. It comes after a number of Xbox-exclusive titles have become available to PlayStation owners in recent months with more to come. The same day that Helldivers 2 launches on Xbox, Gears Of War will make its PlayStation debut with the Reloaded remaster. That will be followed by Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 in August, and Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 in October.

However, according to the community manager of the Discord group, Helldivers 2 is “definitely not” coming to Game Pass and there are “no plans” for that to change in the future (via Gaming Bolt).

A Helldivers 2 movie adaptation is also currently in the works. The project was confirmed at the start of the year alongside a live-action take on Horizon Zero Dawn and an anime version of Ghost Of Tsushima, which is due to premiere in 2027.

Resident Evil Requiem is due to launch next near but another new entry in the iconic horror franchise is on the way.

Resident Evil Survival Unit is a mobile survival horror strategy game being co-developed by Aniplex Inc and Joycity Corporation. However Capcom are working in “close collaboration” with the two studios to ensure “authenticity and quality”.

The only information shared about the real-time strategy game is a single image featuring a stormy night and a car driving past a billboard advertising The Umbrella Company. This suggests Resident Evil Survival Unit will take place sometime before the events of Resident Evil 4, which saw the destruction of the shady Umbrella Corporation. An accompanying press release says Survival Unit is “designed to appeal to both long-time fans and new players.”

More information about the new game is due later this week with a livestream scheduled to take place July 10 at 11pm BST. Head here for more details.

Last month, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil 9 would be launching in 2026. Requiem will see players return to the now-abandoned Racoon City following the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. They will also be introduced to new protagonist Grace Ashcroft. 

“While survival horror takes center stage, Resident Evil Requiem will feature high-stakes cinematic action that will take the series in a bold new direction,” said a blog post announcing the game. “A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before,” continued a statement from developers. “Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.”

Developers Capcom have also shared a number of images from the game, while a handful of journalists have also played a brief section of the game, which has led to horror fans already calling Resident Evil Requiem the best game of 2026. 

Last week Game Director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that originally Resident Evil 9 was planned to be an open-world, online multiplayer game but those ideas were quickly scrapped in favour of the single-player Resident Evil Requiem. “Although we had some interesting concepts, we realised that it wasn’t what fans wanted to see or play,” he added.

Perfect Dark was released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 as the spiritual successor to the iconic Goldeneye 007. A sequel Perfect Dark Zero launched on the Xbox 360 in 2005 before an updated version of the original followed in 2010.

In 2020, it was announced that Microsoft would be rebooting the franchise, starting with a remake of Perfect Dark that would be developed by two studios – Crystal Dynamics and The Initiative.

Last week, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty confirmed via email that The Initiative would be shutting down and the seven years of work on Perfect Dark would be scrapped. The cancellation comes as part of wider changes at Microsoft that will see four per cent of its total workforce laid off, with a majority of those coming from the world of gaming.

It’s also been announced that Rare’s ambitious new IP Everwild has also been scrapped alongside other “unannounced projects”. It’s been reported that Project Blackbird, Zennimax’s planned successor to The Elder Scrolls Online, has also been cancelled despite executives being “blown away” by what they’d seen so far of the massively-multiplayer online game.

“We have made the decision to stop development of Perfect Dark and Everwild as well as wind down several unannounced projects across our portfolio,” said Booty in his email.

“These decisions, along with other changes across our teams, reflect a broader effort to adjust priorities and focus resources to set up our teams for greater success within a changing industry landscape. We did not make these choices lightly, as each project and team represent years of effort, imagination, and commitment.”

“Our overall portfolio strategy is unchanged: build games that excite our players, continue to grow our biggest franchises, and create new stories, worlds, and characters. We have more than 40 projects in active development, continued momentum on titles shipping this fall, and a strong slate headed into 2026,” he added.

The restructuring is the fourth wave of lay-offs made at Microsoft in the past 18 months. Following the news, a number of industry professionals blamed the lay-offs on Xbox Game Pass.” I think Game Pass is an unsustainable model that has been increasingly damaging the industry for a decade, subsidised by MicroSoft’s ‘infinite money’, but at some point reality has to hit. I don’t think Game Pass can co-exist with other models, they’ll either kill everyone else, or give up,” said Raphael Colantonio, founder of Arkane Studios.

HBO‘s The Last Of Us adaptation has received a massive creative shake-up – find out more below.

Yesterday (July 2), Neil Druckmann – Naughty Dog boss, co-creator of The Last Of Us games, director and co-writer on of the HBO series – announced that he would be stepping away from season three of the TV show.

“I’ve made the difficult decision to step away from my creative involvement in The Last Of Us on HBO. With work completed on season 2 and before any meaningful work starts on season 3, now is the right time for me to transition my complete focus to Naughty Dog and its future projects, including writing and directing our exciting next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with my responsibilities as Studio Head and Head of Creative,” he wrote in a statement.

He reflected on his work on the HBO series, including directing several episodes and writing: “Co-creating the show has been a career highlight. It’s been an honour to work alongside Craig Mazin to executive produce, direct and write on the last two seasons. I’m deeply thankful for the thoughtful approach and dedication the talented cast and crew took to adapting The Last Of Us Part I and the continued adaptation of The Last Of Us Part II.”

Following his announcement, Halley Gross – who co-wrote The Last Of Us Part II and was a writer and executive producer on the HBO series also announced that she would be stepping back from her “day-to-day work” on the series. “I have some truly rad projects ahead that I can’t wait to share, but for now, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who brought Ellie and Joel’s world to life with such care.”

Creative control for the Last Of Us season three – which will explore the story told in the second half of the Last Of Us Part II game – will now rest solely with Craig Mazin – the writers room will include Mazin, a Naughty Dog staff and one other writer.

Mazin has issued his own statement, per Deadline: “It’s been a creative dream to work with Neil and bring an adaptation of his brilliant work to life on HBO. I couldn’t have asked for a more generous creative partner. As a true fan of Naughty Dog and Neil’s work in video games, I’m beyond excited to play his next game. While he focuses on that, I’ll continue to work with our brilliant cast and crew to deliver the show our audience has come to expect. We are so grateful to Neil and Halley Gross for entrusting the incredible story of The Last Of Us Part II to us, and we’re just as grateful to the millions of people around the world who tune in.”

Season three is set to focus on the Abby character, though Mazin has teased that Joel (Pedro Pascal) will return: “We haven’t even seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story.”

Additionally, Mazin has been vocal of the show needing four seasons in total to wrap up, meaning an additional collection of episodes will be in the works following season three. However, it’s not clear what season four will entail, as season three will seemingly complete the story told in the second game. A third game has not been announced.

In a four-star review of The Last Of Us season two, Nick Levine wrote for NME: “At its best, The Last Of Us is unsettling enough to make you question your own hypothetical moral code. When every day is about survival and making sense of post-apocalyptic chaos, does taking a life become easier, or somehow even harder? This show doesn’t just go deep narratively – it also cuts deep emotionally.”
