Read on to find out.

The dystopian drama series, based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, has been running on Hulu since 2017, with Channel 4 and Amazon Prime Video carrying the show in the UK.

The episodes went out in the US several weeks in advance of the UK, with the 10th and final instalment of the sixth run arriving on July 5.

The Handmaid’s Tale tells the story of an alternative future in which a theocratic, totalitarian regime named Gilead has taken control in the US after a second civil war. Men hold all power in the new regime, with fertile women – or handmaids – forced to bear children for the ruling elite.

Elisabeth Moss played June Osborne, a woman who was captured as she attempted to escape to Canada with her husband and daughter. Joseph Fiennes, Ann Dowd and Bradley Whitford co-star.

In episode nine of this season, Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)’ soundtracked a scene in which June led a rebellion against the commanders of Gilead, with some Swifties believing they had spotted Swift herself in a cameo in the scene.

Will The Handmaid’s Tale get a seventh season?

When the sixth season of The Handmaid’s Tale was commissioned in 2022, the series creators confirmed that it would be the final season of the show.

Showrunner Bruce Miller, previously known for his work on Eureka and The 100, had always intended for the show to have a six season arc, with June’s story designed to end with the final episodes of the sixth run.

However, Hulu and FX have greenlit a sequel series, to be based on Atwood’s follow-up novel The Testaments. Ann Dowd, Chase Infiniti and Lucy Halliday will return in the new show, with Moss to stay on as an executive producer.

Miller will serve as showrunner once again, with filming already under way. The Testaments will be set four to five years after the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale and while no official release date has been confirmed, it is expected to land in 2026.

Yesterday (June 8) Netflix revealed the first teaser trailer for the long-awaited third season of Alice In Borderland, which comes three years after 2022’s acclaimed season two. Season three is set to premiere on September 25 worldwide.

The teaser – which you can watch below – depicts Arisu and Usagi’s lives falling apart since returning to the real world following season two, only to be haunted by nightmares and devastating visions of Borderland. Usagi is abducted and brought back to the Borderland, while Arisu’s handed a mysterious Joker card as chaos ensues.

The official synopsis for season three reads: “After Usagi is abducted and left unconscious by a mysterious scholar obsessed with the afterlife, Arisu returns to the perilous Borderland to save her. Teaming up with new players, they must face the yet-unseen Joker stage in a desperate bid to find a way back to their original world.”

Just four days after season two was released in 2022, Alice In Borderland became the most-watched Japanese title of all time in the platform’s history, overtaking anime and charting the Top 10 in over 10 countries.

Alice In Borderland revolves around a group of people who are transported to a parallel universe in which they have to play and win games to remain alive.

Alice In Borderland stars Kento Yamazaki as Ryōhei Arisu and Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi, who must work together to escape a dystopian, abandoned version of Tokyo and return to the world they know.

Season three will see the return of its main cast in Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi and Katsuya Maiguma, while new faces include Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, and Kento Kaku.

The DC directors lent their voices to parody versions of themselves in the episode ‘Ricker Than Fiction’ last night (July 6), which sees Rick and Morty dissatisfied with the direction of their favourite franchise Maximum Velocitree.

The titular pair confront Gunn, who is its director – and after being left unhappy with his response, Rick and Morty decide to alter the franchise themselves with their ‘Movie-lizer’ device.

In one scene, Gunn crosses paths with Snyder in a cafeteria, the latter telling his fellow director that he had seen his cut of Superman, joking: “Word of advice – he’s the Man of Steel, not the Man of Conversation. Do more shots of him punching.”

An angered Gunn hits back at him, admitting he’s frustrated because of Rick and Morty, quipping that Snyder’s “biceps are the size of my head”.

“Zack, we’re not losing touch with the audience, are we?” he asks. “I gave notes on the goddamn Count Chocula movie this morning.”

Snyder notes that he’s dealing with Rick, “the guy that sealed [Christopher] Nolan in the giant bookcase to quote-unquote punish him for Interstellar. He doesn’t represent real fans, he’s just the smartest man in the universe. Don’t sweat it, he can’t do what we do… probably.”

The episode then sees Rick and Morty coming up with a better ending, to which Gunn is converted. The director then takes the Movie-lizer’s hard drive to Warner Bros., declaring it could “save Hollywood”, before he is killed by the studio.

Opening up about landing the real Gunn and Snyder to do the voice cameos, show executive producer Scott Marder told Variety that they “were good sports” about the whole thing.

“Both of those guys sort of implied that this is the show they watch when they have downtime,” he added. “So they were thrilled to get to be a part of the world, and there was no pushback or bristling.

“If anything, they laughed at anything we threw at them. There were probably, frankly, even more digs and more silly things we could have used. All they did was laugh it off.”

Gunn is currently prepping the release of his new Superman film, and suggested in a recent interview that the film industry is dying because “people are making movies without a finished screenplay”.

Addressing a recently canned film of his, the director told Rolling Stone: “Everybody wanted to make the movie. It was greenlit, ready to go. The screenplay wasn’t ready. And I couldn’t do a movie where the screenplay’s not good.

“And we’ve been really lucky so far, because Supergirl’s script was so fucking good off the bat. And then Lanterns came in, and the script was so fucking good. Clayface, same thing. So fucking good. So we have these scripts that we’ve been really lucky with or wise in our choices or whatever the combination is.”

The original story, which follows patients at a mental institution, was famously adapted into the acclaimed 1975 film starring Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher.

It has now been confirmed by original producer Saul Zaentz’s nephew Paul Zaentz that there are plans for a TV adaptation.

“Over the last 50 years, there have been hundreds of calls from studios, directors, and producers who want to remake the movie, and we would never allow it to be remade if they were just going to do it as [director] Miloš [Forman] made it,” he said at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (via The Hollywood Reporter). “It would be a dishonor.”

He then revealed that had made “an arrangement” with the family of Kesey – who penned the 1962 novel the film is based upon – to “possibly do a television series”.

It would be adapted from the book, and like the source material, it would be from the perspective of deaf-mute character Chief Bromden (portrayed by Will Sampson in the film).

“So the television series would be through his eyes,” he added, before teasing what story arc it would take.

“At the end of the first [season], the R.P. McMurphy, the Jack Nicholson, character would die,” he shared. “And then the second year would be what happens to the Chief after he escapes.”

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest was directed by Forman and is one of the few films to have won all five major Oscars, including Best Picture.

The world of the film was revisited in 2020 Netflix series Ratched, which acts as a prequel focused on Nurse Ratched. Sarah Paulson takes on the role originally made famous by Fletcher, who won Best Actress for her portrayal of the villainous character.

He died in Clearwater, Florida, on Wednesday (July 2) after being diagnosed with cancer, which had not been publicly announced.

The news was confirmed by his wife, Kelly Paniagua, on Friday (July 4), who wrote in a statement: “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer.

“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”

She added: “We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

McMahon was best known for his television roles in Charmed, Nip/Tuck and FBI: Most Wanted. He also famously played the Fantastic Four supervillain Doctor Doom.

In 1992, he made his feature film debut, performing in the comedy Exchange Lifeguards, titled Wet and Wild Summer! From there, he moved into US television, appearing in Another World, Profiler and Will & Grace.

Later, McMahon would gain wider recognition for his role as Cole Turner in Charmed – a show he appeared on between 2000 and 2003 before briefly returning in 2005.

He would also be nominated for a Golden Globe in 2010 for his performance as plastic surgeon Dr Christian Troy in the Ryan Murphy-created medical drama Nip/Tuck.

Alex Horne played the title role in that first version, with the idea having been inspired by The Crystal Maze, as well as Horne’s work on Big Brother, and his envy of his close friend Tim Key winning the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2009.

The 19th season of Taskmaster concluded on Thursday night (July 3).

The first season of the screen version of Gaiman’s influential graphic novel debuted on the streaming service in August 2022, with the second season commissioned later that year.

The 12 episodes of season two are being released over the course of July, with the first six landing on Thursday (July 3), another five on July 24 and the final instalment due to arrive on July 31.

The show has been overseen by Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg and it tells the story of Dream/Morpheus, the titular Sandman, played by Tom Sturridge. Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong and Patton Oswalt co-star.

According to Netflix, season two begins a few weeks after the climax of the first season. “After more than a century away from the Dreaming, Dream has been restoring and rebuilding his kingdom,” the synopsis reads. “As he transforms the palace, he vows to leave the past behind and look to the future. The past, of course, has other ideas.”

In a four-star review of season one, NME wrote: “Often falling back on a corny British sense of humour and slightly over-polished to a contemporary sheen, there’s a cheap whiff of Doctor Who to the earlier episodes that will put a lot of people off. Stick with The Sandman through its biggest excesses though and there’s enough imagination to fuel another 30 years of waiting for anything half so original to come along again.”

Every song in season two of The Sandman

As with the first season, the new episodes feature an original score composed by David Buckley, who is known for his work on films such as The Nice Guys, Nobody and Greenland.

In addition, it features several needle drop moments, including tracks by Dusty Springfield and Gladys Knight. The full list of songs in the first six episodes is:

Tori Letzler & The Hit House – ‘All I Have To Do Is Dream’
Hozier – ‘Eat Your Young

EPISODE FOUR
Katie Herzig – ‘Beat Of Your Own’
Gladys Knight & The Pips – ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’

All six episodes of the third season were released on the streaming service last week (June 27), with the events picking up immediately after the cliffhanger that brought season two to a close last December.

Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun, aka Player 456, remains the central figure in the new episodes, finding himself drawn back into the Games, but now deeply disillusioned and traumatised.

As with previous seasons, the new episodes have been overseen by showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk. Despite the show’s runaway success – it quickly became Netflix’s most watched title of all time on its original release in 2021 – it has been confirmed that this will be the final regular season of the show.

Dong-hyuk recently discussed the possibility of there being a prequel series in the future, and also stated that he felt the villainous VIPs in the show “resemble Elon Musk”.

In a four-star review of season three, NME wrote: “With the parting reveal that Squid Game is much bigger than just South Korea through an A-list cameo that’ll steal your breath, the relentless cycle of capitalist exploitation and suffering is pulled back into focus. It may all feel like doom and gloom but the final episode is deliberately titled ‘Humans Are…’ It’s left up to the viewer to decide how they fill in that blank.”

Squid Game season three ending explained: Does Gi-hun survive the final Games?

After the deadly ending to season two, in which his close friend Jung-bae is killed, Gi-hun is traumatised and apparently defeated as season three begins.

One of the key plot developments involves the birth of player 222’s baby, who Gi-hun vows to protect after player 222 dies. The organisers of the Games order that the child will be counted as an official player in its mother’s place, and by the time of the final game – Sky Squid Game – Gi-hun, the baby and its biological father Myung-gi are the only remaining competitors.

Myung-gi declares that he is prepared to kill the baby in order to take home the huge cash prize, but when he wrestles Gi-hun, Myung-gi is thrown off their high tower to his death. With just Gi-hun and the baby left, Gi-hun addresses the watching audience: “We are not horses, we are humans. And humans are…” and with that, he jumps to his death.

With the detectives nearly at the island on which the Games are being held, the Front Man rescues the baby and activates a self-destruct button that destroys all evidence of the Games.

We later see the Front Man in the US and he sees a recruiter playing the slap game with a potential new player. The recruiter is revealed to be played by Cate Blanchett, suggesting that the long-rumoured, David Fincher-directed US version of Squid Game may now be a reality.

The duo’s controversial performance took place at Worthy Farm last Saturday (June 28), and saw them voice their support for Palestine, as well as call out the BBC, Israel, the US and UK governments.

They projected a message reading “Free Palestine – United Nations have called it a genocide – the BBC calls it a ‘conflict’” onto the screen behind them, and also led chants of both “free, free Palestine” and “death, death to the IDF [Israel Defence Forces]”.

Now, the BBC has shared a statement, saying that it has decided to no longer share broadcasts of “high-risk” performances.

In a note to BBC staff, Director-General Tim Davie said: “I deeply regret that such offensive and deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC and want to say sorry – to our audience and to all of you, but in particular to Jewish colleagues and the Jewish community.

“We are unequivocal that there can be no place for anti-Semitism at the BBC. I and everyone need to ensure that the BBC is a role model for inclusivity and tolerance and we all have a part to play. We are utterly committed to creating an environment where everyone is supported and can do their very best work.”

In an official statement from the BBC regarding the Bob Vylan slot, the broadcaster stated that it wanted to “apologise to our viewers and listeners and in particular the Jewish community,” and was adamant that “there can be no place for anti-Semitism at, or on, the BBC.”

It added that there were “errors made both in the lead-up to and during Bob Vylan’s appearance”. These included the decision to live stream their set despite them being one of seven acts deemed “high risk”, the presumption that “compliance risks could be mitigated in real time on the live stream”, and the decision not to cut the broadcast when things escalated.

In the changes it will implement going forward, the BBC has said it will not allow “any music performances deemed high risk to be broadcast live or streamed live”.

It also said that in the future, “editorial policy support will always be available on site at major music festivals and events, to improve compliance processes and the speed of available advice”, and that it will “provide more detailed, practical guidance on the threshold for withdrawing a live stream.”

A new statement was shared by Chair of the BBC, Samir Shah, too, which read: “I’d like first of all to apologise to all our viewers and listeners and particularly the Jewish community for allowing the ‘artist’ Bob Vylan to express unconscionable anti-Semitic views live on the BBC.

“This was unquestionably an error of judgement. I was very pleased to note that as soon as this came to the notice of Tim Davie – who was on the Glastonbury site at the time visiting BBC staff – he took immediate action and instructed the team to withdraw the performance from on demand coverage.”

Shah continued: “The BBC Board met on Tuesday to hear what actions will now be taken. The Executive have agreed to put in place a set of strengthened editorial practices and policies for live music programming. These will be important measures to safeguard future live broadcasts from a failure such as this.

“I am satisfied that the Executive is initiating a process to ensure proper accountability for those found to be responsible for the failings in this incident.

“While it is important that the process is carried out fairly and correctly, it is equally important that the Executive takes decisive action. The Board fully supports the Director-General and the swift actions taken by him and his team to identify these errors and address them.”
